Winners in Q2 2024 African smartphone market

The African smartphone market – in terms of shipments — grew 6 percent to 17.8 million units during the second-quarter of 2024, Canalys’ latest research reveals.

Leading countries in terms of growth in smartphone sales were Algeria (52 percent), Egypt (27 percent), South Africa (13 percent), and Nigeria (5 percent).

Egypt government’s push for local manufacturing attracted companies such as Xiaomi, Vivo, Samsung, HMD and Apple to start discussions about investment.

The sub-US$100 smartphone market has achieved 42 percent growth, accounting for 33 percent of the total market.

TRANSSION (51 percent share), Samsung (19 percent), Xiaomi (12 percent) Realme (5 percent), and Oppo are the leading smartphone brands in Africa in Q2 2024.
