Reliance Jio retains lead in wired broadband market in India

Reliance Jio has retained its lead in the wired broadband market in India from January to July 2024, according to TRAI data.

The above chart shows the growth trends for wired broadband customers in India from January to July 2024. It highlights the steady rise of Reliance Jio and Airtel, while BSNL shows moderate growth, and Atria remains relatively stable.

India had 41.98 million wired broadband customers at the end of July 2024. This compares with 903.38 million mobile Internet customers.

Reliance Jio:

Reliance Jio experienced a steady and consistent growth in wired broadband subscribers, increasing from 10.63 million in January 2024 to 12.86 million in July 2024.

The total growth over this period was 2.23 million subscribers, with an average monthly increase of approximately 0.37 million.

This positions Reliance Jio as the leader in India’s wired broadband market, with a clear and consistent upward trajectory.

Airtel:

Airtel also saw positive growth, rising from 7.50 million subscribers in January 2024 to 8.16 million in July 2024.

The overall increase was 0.66 million subscribers over the six-month period, with an average monthly growth of around 0.11 million.

Airtel’s growth has been steady, but it remains significantly behind Reliance Jio in terms of overall subscribers.

BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam):

BSNL’s subscriber base increased moderately, from 3.89 million in January 2024 to 4.19 million in July 2024.

This represents a modest growth of 0.30 million subscribers over the period, with an average monthly increase of around 0.05 million.

Despite this growth, BSNL’s position in the wired broadband market remains relatively stable but slow.

Atria Convergence Technologies:

Atria’s subscriber base remained fairly constant, with 2.23 million subscribers in January 2024 and 2.26 million in July 2024.

The total growth during this period was 0.03 million subscribers, indicating minimal change.

Atria is the smallest player among the major wired broadband providers, with limited growth in subscriber numbers.
